Elizabeth Carson Pastan, Stephen D. White, Kate Gilbert, "The Bayeux Tapestry and Its Contexts: A Reassessment"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 1843839415 | PDF | pages: 475 | 162.2 mb
Aspects of the Bayeux Tapestry (in fact an embroidered hanging) have always remained mysterious, despite much scholarly investigation, not least its design and patron. Here, in the first full-length interdisciplinary approach to the subject, the authors (an art historian and a historian) consider these and other issues. Rejecting the prevalent view that it was commissioned by Odo, the bishop of Bayeux and half-brother of William the Conqueror, or by some other comparable patron, they bring new evidence to bear on the question of its relationship to the abbey of St Augustine's, Canterbury. From the study of art-historical, archeological, literary, historical and documentary materials, they conclude that the monks of St Augustine's designed the hanging for display in their abbey church to tell their own story of how England was invaded and conquered in 1066.

Many shocking secrets regarding Dr Watson, Watson's first wife Mary, and Holmes' drug addiction are also revealed. Kelvin I Jones is the author of many books about Holmes and his creator. Rousas John Rushdoony, "Sovereignty"
English | 2008 | ISBN: 1879998491 | EPUB | pages: 519 | 1.9 mb
The word sovereignty means one who is above all. It is the supreme and highest power. The Christian defines the Sovereign Lord as unlimited, independent, with original authority. For fallen man, sovereignty belongs to the state because the state is the source of law. Since the Christian can have no other gods (Ex. 20:3), history is defined appropriately by Augustine as a conflict between the City of Man and the City of God. As in all conflicts, we must choose this day whom we will serve. In this posthumously published volume, R. J. Rushdoony examines the comprehensive implications of God's sovereignty with a clear eye to critiquing the various places where man posits sovereignty-especially the sovereign state. This is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the crises of our times.
