Convex analysis By Ralph Tyrell Rockafellar
1996 | 468 Pages | ISBN: 0691015864 | PDF | 13 MB
Available for the first time in paperback, R. Tyrrell Rockafellar's classic study presents readers with a coherent branch of nonlinear mathematical analysis that is especially suited to the study of optimization problems. Rockafellar's theory differs from classical analysis in that differentiability assumptions are replaced by convexity assumptions. The topics treated in this volume include: systems of inequalities, the minimum or maximum of a convex function over a convex set, Lagrange multipliers, minimax theorems and duality, as well as basic results about the structure of convex sets and the continuity and differentiability of convex functions and saddle- functions. This book has firmly established a new and vital area not only for pure mathematics but also for applications to economics and engineering. A sound knowledge of linear algebra and introductory real analysis should provide readers with sufficient background for this book. There is also a guide for the reader who may be using the book as an introduction, indicating which parts are essential and which may be skipped on a first reading.
Controversial Reasoning in Indian Philosophy: Major Texts and Arguments on Arthâpatti by Malcolm Keating
2020 | ISBN: 1350070475 | English | 400 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Arthâpatti is a pervasive form of reasoning investigated by Indian philosophers in order to think about unseen causes and interpret ordinary and religious language. Its nature is a point of controversy among Mimamsa, Nyaya, and Buddhist philosophers, yet, to date, it has received less attention than perception, inference, and testimony.
Control Engineering: Introduction With The Use of Matlab by Derek Atherton
English | Jan 5, 2021 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B08S6Q7KFX | 258 pages | Rar (PDF, AZW3) | 3.9 Mb
The book is concerned with theoretical methods for continuous linear feedback control systemdesign, and is primarily restricted to single-input single-output systems. Continuous linear time invariant systems have linear differential equation mathematical models and are always anapproximation to a real device or system. All real systems will change with time due to age and environmental changes and may only operate reasonably linearly over a restricted range of operation. There is, however, a rich theory for the analysis of linear systems which can provide excellent approximations for the analysis and design of real world situations when used within the correct context. Further, simulation is now an excellent means to support linear theoretical studies as model errors, such as the affects of neglected nonlinearity, can easily be assessed. There are a total of 11 chapters and some appendices, the major one being Appendix A on Laplace transforms. The next chapter provides a brief description of the forms of mathematical model representations used in control engineering analysis and design. It does not deal with mathematical modelling of engineering devices, which is a huge subject and is best dealt with in the discipline covering the subject, since the devices or components could be electrical, mechanical, hydraulic etc. Suffice to say that one hopes to obtain an approximate linear mathematical model for these components so that their effect in a system can be investigated using linear control theory. The mathematical models discussed are the linear differential equation, the transfer function and a state space representation, together with the notations used for them in MATLAB.

Contemporary readings in the foundations of metaphysics By Cynthia Macdonald, Stephen Laurence
1998 | 242 Pages | ISBN: 0631201726 | PDF | 37 MB
The basic tools and concepts of metaphysics are employed in virtually every branch of philosophy, necessitating a basic understanding of metaphysics to completely understand any philosophical work. This volume is a comprehensive survey of contemporary thought on a wide range of issues and provides students with the basic background to current debates in metaphysics. An introductory essay by the editors offers an overview of the volume and introduces students to the major debates that are contained within the main body of the text. The collection contains classic contemporary papers on topics such as Ontological Commitment and Methodology, Possible Worlds and Possibilia, Properties and Universals, Substances, Events, Tropes and Mathematical Objects. It also includes seven newly-commissioned state-of-the-art articles by Van Inwagen, Lycan, Bealer, Loux, Lombard, Macdonald and Field.
