Charles Nelson's School Of Self-defense The Red and Gray Manuals
Charles Nelson's School Of Self-defense: The Red and Gray Manuals
Paladin Press | 2007 | ISBN: 1581605951 | English | 197 pages | PDF | 17.02 MB
When he left the military after World War II, Charlie realized that there was a realistic need for average citizens to be able to defend themselves against violent assault, so he opened his School of Self-Defense in New York City. During its five decades of operation, Nelson's school taught hundreds of men, women and even children. To reach more people than could personally attend the school, Nelson published two manuals on self-defense, commonly referred to as the "Little Red Manual" and the "Little Gray Manual," both long out of print. Through these two booklets Charlie influenced generations of law enforcement officers, military personnel, martial artists and celebrities. Now for the first time, the two manuals have been combined to offer a comprehensive picture of the Nelson system of self-defense. Along with the faithful reproductions of the red and gray manuals, Charles Nelson's School of Self-Defense offers an illuminating look at Charlie Nelson by former pupil and World War II combatives expert Carl Cestari as well as a collection of photos from the life of one of the pioneers of civilian self-defense.

Cataloging and Classification An Introduction, 4th Edition
Lois Mai Chan, Athena Salaba , "Cataloging and Classification: An Introduction, 4th Edition"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 1442232498 | 800 pages | EPUB | 6.7 MB
The fourth edition of the late Lois Mai Chan's classic Cataloging and Classification covers the analysis and representation of methods used in describing, organizing, and providing access to resources made available in or through libraries. Since the last edition published in 2007, there have been dramatic changes in cataloging systems from the Library of Congress. The most notable being the shift from AACR2 to Resource Description and Access (RDA) as the new standard developed by the Library of Congress. With the help of the coauthor, Athena Salaba, this text is modified throughout to conform to the new standard.Retaining the overall outline of the previous edition, this text presents the essence of library cataloging and classification in terms of three basic functions: descriptive cataloging, subject access, and classification. Within this framework, all chapters have been rewritten to incorporate the changes that have occurred during the interval between the third and fourth editions. In each part, the historical development and underlying principles of the retrieval mechanism at issue are treated first, because these are considered essential to an understanding of cataloging and classification. Discussion and examples of provisions in the standards and tools are then presented in order to illustrate the operations covered in each chapter.Divided into five parts-a general overview; record production and structure, encoding formats, and metadata records; RDA; subject access and controlled vocabularies; and the organization of library resources-each part of the book begins with a list of the standards and tools used in the preparation and processing of that part of the cataloging record covered, followed by suggested background readings selected to help the reader gain an overview of the subject to be presented. This book is the standard text for the teaching and understanding of cataloging and classification.

Bob Kasper's Sting of the Scorpion A Fundamental Guide to Knife Combat
Bob Kasper's Sting of the Scorpion: A Fundamental Guide to Knife Combat
Paladin Press | 2009 | ISBN: 1581606974 | English | 122 pages | PDF | 1.73 MB
This is a book about knife combat - it is about carrying a knife as a deadly weapon and, when the need for deadly force arises, knowing how to use it. It is about a fighting knife, how to carry it, how to draw it and how to engage it in a kill-or-be-killed situation." Bob Kasper left no doubt why he wrote this book. Many of you may already be familiar with Kasper from his writings in Tactical Knives magazine; his knife designs, especially the Scorpion; or his practical instruction in the tactics, techniques and procedures of edged-weapon combat. Those of you who never had the chance to train with, correspond with or read his writings are in for a treat.

Bob Kasper's Individual Close Combat Volumes 1 & 2
Bob Kasper's Individual Close Combat Volumes 1 & 2
Paladin Press | 2008 | ISBN: 1581606850 | English | 71 pages | PDF | 2.33 MB
After World War II, training in hand-to-hand combat stopped abruptly, as interest in the Eastern martial arts blossomed. Convinced that these close-quarter techniques, which had been forged in the streets of Shanghai, China, and tempered in the Pacific and European theaters of war, represented the true essence of close combat, and concerned that these skills would be lost forever, a handful of men decided to preserve this knowledge. One of these men was Bob Kasper.
