The Dynamics of Auction Social Interaction and the Sale of Fine Art and Antiques
Christian Heath, "The Dynamics of Auction: Social Interaction and the Sale of Fine Art and Antiques "
English | ISBN: 0521767407 | 2012 | 260 pages | PDF | 4 MB
Each year art and antiques worth many billions of pounds are sold at auction. These auctions consist of numerous, intense episodes of social interaction through which the price of goods rapidly escalates until sold on the strike of a hammer. In this book, Christian Heath examines the fine details of interaction that arises at auctions, the talk and visible conduct of the participants, and their use of various tools and technologies. He explores how auctioneers, buyers and their representatives are able to transact the sale of goods worth anything from a few dollars through to many millions in just seconds. Heath addresses how order, trust, and competition are established at auctions and demonstrates how an economic institution of some global importance is founded upon embodied action and interaction. The analysis is based on video recordings of sales of art and antiques gathered within a range of national and international auction houses in Europe and the United States.

The Crisis of Risk Subprime Debt and US Financial Power from 1944 to Present
Scott M. Aquanno, "The Crisis of Risk: Subprime Debt and US Financial Power from 1944 to Present"
English | ISBN: 1800370822 | 2021 | 192 pages | PDF | 1355 KB
For the last decade, progressive scholars determined to understand the 2008 financial crisis have examined the growth of US subprime mortgage debt in the period leading up to the collapse and how government policy supported this accumulation. However, the long history of the subprime crisis, its connection to the patterns of financial risk designated by the postwar international monetary system, has been all too often overlooked.

The Courage Party Helping Our Resilient Children Understand and Survive Sexual Assault
Joyce Brabner, "The Courage Party: Helping Our Resilient Children Understand and Survive Sexual Assault "
English | ISBN: 1621067858 | 2020 | 224 pages | PDF | 16 MB
The Courage Party is a "gently explicit" book about sexual abuse, written for kids to read alone or (better) with a "good grownup." Parental guide included. After escaping a playground predator, a little girl learns to understand what happened and how to carry herself with pride and conviction after five older women organize a "Courage Party" for her and share stories from their own lives. Interactions with police, pediatricians, prosecutors, victim advocates, a community rape crisis center and courthouse are depicted as young Danielle learns she is more than a survivor. She is a "crime fighter," powered by her own truthfulness and courage, able to protect other kids in the park, with many good grownups on her side.Based on a true story, Dani's own good grownup talks in the margins to parents about key ideas: ending conflicting messages ("You didn't do anything wrong. But don't tell anybody!"); understanding the difference between loving adult sexual intercourse and sexual abuse; interacting with authorities; and helping your child deal with malicious gossip, taunts and jeers.Written by award-winning non-fiction graphic novelist Joyce Brabner with an assist from Danielle and illustrated by Gerta Oparaku. Both Joyce and Danielle were first introduced in Harvey Pekar's autobio series American Splendor and the movie of that same name.

System-Materials Nanoarchitectonics
System-Materials Nanoarchitectonics
English | 2022 | ISBN: 4431569111 | 332 Pages | PDF | 13 MB
This book is the first publication to widely introduce the contributions of nanoarchitectonics to the development of functional materials and systems. The book opens up pathways to novel nanotechnology based on bottom-up techniques. In fields of nanotechnology, theoretical and practical limitations are expected in the bottom-up nanofabrication process. Instead, some supramolecular processes for nano- and microstructure formation including molecular recognition, self-assembly, and template synthesis have gained great attention as novel key technologies to break through expected limitations in current nanotechnology. This volume describes future images of nanotechnology and related materials and device science as well as practical applications for energy and biotechnology. Readers including specialists, non-specialists, graduate students, and undergraduate students can focus on the parts of the book that interest and concern them most. Target fields include materials chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, nanotechnology, and even biotechnology.

Single- and Two-Phase Flow Pressure Drop and Heat Transfer in Tubes
Single- and Two-Phase Flow Pressure Drop and Heat Transfer in Tubes
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3030872807 | 304 Pages | PDF EPUB | 50 MB
The book provides design engineers an elemental understanding of the variables that influence pressure drop and heat transfer in plain and micro-fin tubes to thermal systems using liquid single-phase flow in different industrial applications. It also provides design engineers using gas-liquid, two-phase flow in different industrial applications the necessary fundamentals of the two-phase flow variables. The author and his colleagues were the first to determine experimentally the very important relationship between inlet geometry and transition. On the basis of their results, they developed practical and easy to use correlations for the isothermal and non-isothermal friction factor (pressure drop) and heat transfer coefficient (Nusselt number) in the transition region as well as the laminar and turbulent flow regions for different inlet configurations and fin geometry. This work presented herein provides the thermal systems design engineer the necessary design tools. The author further presents a succinct review of the flow patterns, void fraction, pressure drop and non-boiling heat transfer phenomenon and recommends some of the well scrutinized modeling techniques.

Self-Lubricating Composites,2nd Edition
Self-Lubricating Composites,2nd Edition
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3662642425 | 305 Pages | PDF | 15 MB
In most tribological applications, liquid or grease based lubricants are used to facilitate the relative motion of solid bodies to minimize friction and wear between interacting surfaces. The challenges for liquid lubricants arise in extreme environmental conditions, such as very high or low temperatures, vacuum, radiation, and extreme contact pressure. At these conditions, solid lubricants may be the alternative choice which can help to decrease friction and wear without incorporating liquid lubricants. Challenges with solid lubricants are to maintain a continuous supply of solid lubricants on the contact surfaces to act as lubricous layer between two sliding surfaces. Such a continuous supply is more easily maintained in the case of liquid lubricants when compared to solid lubricants. The most innovative development to ensure a continuous supply of solid lubricant to the contact surface during sliding is to introduce solid lubricant as reinforcement into the matrix of one of the sliding components. Composite materials are engineered or naturally occurring materials which contain two or more distinct constituents with significantly different chemical, physical and mechanical properties. Composites consist of reinforcement and matrix (metal, polymer and ceramics). Among various reinforcements, recent emerging material, solid lubricant, is found to have many favorable attributes such as good lubrication property. Self‐lubrication is the ability of a material to provide lubrication to the contact surface to decrease friction and wear rate in the absence of an external lubricant by transferring embedded solid lubricants in the composite to the interface. Self-lubricating composites (SLCs) are an important category of engineering materials that are increasingly replacing a number of conventional materials in the automotive, aerospace, and marine industries due to superior tribological properties. In SLCs, solid lubricant materials, including carbonous materials, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) are embedded into the matrices as reinforcements to manufacture a novel material with attractive self-lubricating properties. Several studies have been investigated the tribological properties of self-lubricating materials. This book fills that gap to have a reference book about self-lubricating materials and their properties to help scientists, engineers, and industries. This book discusses mechanisms of self-lubricating materials, self-lubricating properties and the applications for industries. The chapters will be written by authoritative expertise in the field. Additionally, this book will demonstrate fundamental study and most advanced innovations in self-lubricating materials as regards to friction and wear. The chapters also include tribological properties of composites and coatings and some practical applications of self-lubricating materials.
