The Holy Grail, the kingdom of Camelot, the Knights of the Round Table, and the magical sword Excalibur are all key ingredients of the legends surrounding King Arthur. But who was he really, where did he come from, and how much of what we read about him in stories that date back to the Dark Ages is true? So far, historians have failed to show that King Arthur really existed at all, and for a good reason—they have been looking in the wrong place. In this "vivid and thought-provoking" book, Alistair Moffat shatters all existing assumptions about Britain's most enigmatic hero (Birmingham Evening Mail). With references to literary sources and historical documents, as well as archeology and the ancient names of rivers, hills, and forts, he strips away a thousand years of myth to unveil the real King Arthur. And in doing so, he solves one of the greatest riddles of them all—the site of Camelot itself.

In the Early Middle Ages, the Anglo-Saxons were a cultural group that resided in England. They traced their roots back to the arrival of incomers to Britain in the fifth century, who originated from the North Sea coastlands of continental Europe. The ethnogenesis of the Anglo-Saxons, on the other hand, happened in Britain, and the identity wasn't just imported. The contact between getting in groups of people from some Germanic tribe, both amongst themselves and with native British populations, led to the facility of an Anglo-Saxon identity. A lot of the native tribes ultimately incorporated and embraced Anglo-Saxon society and language. The Anglo-Saxons established the idea of England and the Kingdom of England, and the modern English language owes practically 26 percent of its vocabulary to them, including the great bulk of words used in daily discussion. The Anglo-Saxon period in history describes the period in Britain from roughly 450 to 1066, starting with their preliminary settlement and ending with the Norman Conquest.

Ancient Egypt was a North African society that grew in the lower banks of the Nile River, in what's now the nation of Egypt. Following Ancient Egypt, old Egyptian civilization culminated circa 3100 BC (according to basic Egyptian chronology) with Menes' political marriage of Upper and Lower Egypt (usually related to Narmer). The Old Kingdom of the Early Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the Middle Bronze Age, and the New Kingdom of the Late Bronze Age formed a series of steady kingdoms split up by periods of relative instability called Intermediate Durations. Let's explore some of the most important features of that society today, and try to grasp what transpired in the culture, the thoughts, the problems, and the development of the Egyptian region more than 5,000 years ago.
