Peyton Budd, "Tested: How Twelve Wrongly Imprisoned Men Held Onto Hope"
English | ISBN: 1934812773 | 2010 | 160 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
Across the country, DNA testing is revealing the innocence of wrongfully convicted and imprisoned people. Dallas leads the nation in these exonerations. TESTED: How Twelve Wrongly Imprisoned Men Held Onto Hope dramatically reveals how these men kept their hope, their faith, and their sanity. As authors Peyton Budd and Dorothy Budd interviewed these men, they discovered the secrets of what sustained them behind bars. These innocent men illuminate both the failures of the justice system and the resilience of the human spirit. Their surprising stories teach us that no matter how we are tested in our lives, it is never wrong to have hope.

Terrible Victory First Canadian Army and the Scheldt Estuary Campaign, September 13 - November 6, 1944
Terrible Victory: First Canadian Army and the Scheldt Estuary Campaign, September 13 - November 6, 1944 By Mark Zuehlke
2007 | 576 Pages | ISBN: 1553652274 | EPUB | 4 MB
On September 4, 1944, Antwerp, Europe's largest port, fell to the Second British Army and it seemed the war would soon be won. But Antwerp was of little value unless the West Scheldt Estuary linking it to the North Sea was also in Allied hands. In his greatest blunder of the war, Field Marshal Montgomery turned his back on the port, leaving the First Canadian Army to fight its way up the long coastal flank. By the time the Canadians and others serving with them reached the area, it had been transformed into a fortress manned by troops ordered to fight to the death. Crushing the Nazi defenders required all of the Canadians' courage, endurance and skill. The battle that raged until November was Canada's bloodiest of World War ii, costing more than 6,000 casualties.

Studies in Greek and Roman History
Ernst Badian - Studies in Greek and Roman History
Basil Blackwell Press | 1964 | ISBN: N/A | English | 296 pages | PDF | 9.35 MB
Great book, difficult to get, for the specialist of Greek and Roman history. Each chapter is unrelated to the others. Badian is simply taking issues that he wants to clarify and works on them, with no regards to actual chronology. Greek themes (Alexander the Great) and Roman themes (Sulla) are intermixed. Therefore you pick and choose which chapter and when to read it. I read it for the chapters on Greek history: Antiochus and Alexander the Great, and other Macedonian issues. Badian is one of these scholars that stresses the fact that the ancient Greeks did not accept the Macedonians as their kin, and he is correct on that in most respects, politically at least though not necessarily culturally (the religion, mythology and language tied the southern Greeks to the Macedonians as much as politics and different economic systems separated them). A great little book by a great Graeco-latinist.

Stars and Stardom in Brazilian Cinema
Tim Bergfelder, Lisa Shaw, João Luiz Vieira, "Stars and Stardom in Brazilian Cinema"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 1785338439, 1785332988 | PDF | pages: 303 | 2.7 mb
Despite the recent explosion of scholarly interest in "star studies," Brazilian film has received comparatively little attention. As this volume demonstrates, however, the richness of Brazilian stardom extends well beyond the ubiquitous Carmen Miranda. Among the studies assembled here are fascinating explorations of figures such as Eliane Lage (the star attraction of São Paulo's Vera Cruz studios), cult horror movie auteur Coffin Joe, and Lázaro Ramos, the most visible Afro-Brazilian actor today. At the same time, contributors interrogate the inner workings of the star system in Brazil, from the pioneering efforts of silent-era actresses to the recent advent of the non-professional movie star.
