Hope Springs Eternal French Bondholders and the Repudiation of Russian Sovereign Debt
Kim Oosterlinck, "Hope Springs Eternal: French Bondholders and the Repudiation of Russian Sovereign Debt "
English | ISBN: 0300190913 | 2016 | 264 pages | PDF | 2 MB
In 1918, the Soviet revolutionary government repudiated the Tsarist regime's sovereign debt, triggering one of the biggest sovereign defaults ever. Yet the price of Russian bonds remained high for years. Combing French archival records, Kim Oosterlinck shows that, far from irrational, investors had legitimate reasons to hope for repayment. Soviet debt recognition, a change in government, a bailout by the French government, or French banks, or a seceding country would have guaranteed at least a partial reimbursement. As Greece and other European countries raise the possibility of sovereign default, Oosterlinck's superbly researched study is more urgent than ever.

Highly Selective Neurotoxins Basic and Clinical Applications
Highly Selective Neurotoxins: Basic and Clinical Applications By C. LeRoy Blank, Russell J. Lewis, Roland E. Lehr (auth.), Richard M. Kostrzewa (eds.)
1998 | 404 Pages | ISBN: 1617370479 | PDF | 13 MB
In Highly Selective Neurotoxins, experienced experimentalists critically review and evaluate the most common and important neurotoxins used today to precisely destroy selected neurons. Each informative chapter thoroughly describes the significant mechanisms of action of a neurotoxin, as well as fully discussing the limits on its use and its clinical applicability. Several clinically oriented chapters are significant for neurologists treating Parkinsonism, for psychiatrists treating drug abuse and neurodegenerative disorders, and for primary care physicians treating patients with appetite suppressants. Highly Selective Neurotoxins provides all the basic knowledge needed to obtain a predictable experimental outcome with these neurotoxins. Its authoritative coverage of the newest findings on experimentally important neurotoxins makes their proper use and their limitations clear and practical from both experimental and theoretical points of view.

Harmonic Analysis on Semigroups Theory of Positive Definite and Related Functions
C. van den Berg, J. P. R. Christensen, P. Ressel, "Harmonic Analysis on Semigroups: Theory of Positive Definite and Related Functions"
English | 1984 | ISBN: 1461270170, 0387909257 | PDF | pages: 299 | 23.1 mb
The Fourier transform and the Laplace transform of a positive measure share, together with its moment sequence, a positive definiteness property which under certain regularity assumptions is characteristic for such expressions. This is formulated in exact terms in the famous theorems of Bochner, Bernstein-Widder and Hamburger. All three theorems can be viewed as special cases of a general theorem about functions qJ on abelian semigroups with involution (S, +, *) which are positive definite in the sense that the matrix (qJ(sJ + Sk» is positive definite for all finite choices of elements St, . . . , Sn from S. The three basic results mentioned above correspond to (~, +, x* = -x), ([0, 00[, +, x* = x) and (No, +, n* = n). The purpose of this book is to provide a treatment of these positive definite functions on abelian semigroups with involution. In doing so we also discuss related topics such as negative definite functions, completely mono tone functions and Hoeffding-type inequalities. We view these subjects as important ingredients of harmonic analysis on semigroups. It has been our aim, simultaneously, to write a book which can serve as a textbook for an advanced graduate course, because we feel that the notion of positive definiteness is an important and basic notion which occurs in mathematics as often as the notion of a Hilbert space.
