Urban Schools Designing for High Density
Helen Taylor, Sharon Wright, "Urban Schools: Designing for High Density"
English | 2020 | ISBN: 1859468810 | 160 pages | EPUB | 50.9 MB
When space is tight how can a city provide the best education experience for children? Is a multi-storey school really a poor option? Can high-quality play opportunities be provided without playgrounds? This book explores the design of schools in urban settings, the increased challenges in meeting the typical expectations of school design, and what the successful new typology of a school in a city might be. A practical guide as well as a theoretical exploration of ideas, this book outlines successful international contemporary and historical case studies, providing much-needed guidance for architects and others working in education design in dense urban environments.

Nic Low, "Uprising: Walking the Southern Alps of New Zealand"
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1925355284 | EPUB | 11.6 MB
This book is about walking as a form of knowing. Armed with Ngāi Tahu's traditional oral maps and modern satellite atlas, I crossed the Southern Alps more than a dozen times, trying to understand how our forebears saw the land. What did it mean to define your identity by sacred mountains, or actually see them as ancestors, turned to stone?

Credit cards make spending money so easy. The process is one step removed and makes us far less careful about it than if we were handing over our hard-earned currency. The combination of this with the fact that they are so easy to obtain for most people can be a recipe for disaster.

Trauma-Informed Behavioral Interventions What Works and What Doesn't
Karyn Harvey, "Trauma-Informed Behavioral Interventions: What Works and What Doesn't"
English | ISBN: 1937604047 | 2012 | 144 pages | EPUB | 448 KB
In this book, the author describes ''what doesn't work'' by outlining the ways in which individuals with intellectual disability may have been damaged by the ''behavioral'' approach to their day-to-day actions. She demonstrates what has been missed through this approach: Needs have not been met, individuals have been misdiagnosed, and trauma responses have been triggered through the exclusive use of behavioral controls, both positive and negative.

Transgenic Xenopus Microinjection Methods and Developmental Neurobiology
Transgenic Xenopus : Microinjection Methods and Developmental Neurobiology By Shlomo Seidman, Hermona Soreq (auth.)
1997 | 198 Pages | ISBN: 0896034577 | PDF | 14 MB
The need to better understand the molecular, b- chemical, and cellular processes by which a developing neuronal system unfolds has led to the development of a unique set of experimental tools and organisms. Special emphasis was devoted to allowing us access, at the ear- est stages, to the genomic basis underlying the system's ultimate complexity, as exhibited once its structures are fully formed. Yet, nerve cells are anatomically, physiolo- cally, and biochemically diverse. The multitude of d- tinctly different routes for their development thus makes the developing nervous system especially intriguing for molecular neurobiologists. In particular, the demands of modern molecular neuroscience call for the establishment of efficient yet versatile systems for studying these c- plex processes. Transgenic embryos of the frog Xenopus laevis offer an excellent system for approaching neuroscientific issues. Insertion of foreign genes is performed simply, by mic- injection under binocular observation; hundreds of in vitro-fertilized embryos can be microinjected in one experiment. Embryos develop in tap water, at room t- perature, and within a few days become independent swimming tadpoles with fully functioning neuromus- lar systems. Being relatively small, these organisms are amenable to detailed analyses at the levels of mRNA, protein, and cell. Their rapid development permits the study of morphogenetic processes involved in early development, such as myogenesis and neural induction, as well as those involved in organogenesis and formation of the brain, the musculature, and the interconnections between them. Foreign DNA remains predominantly extrachromosomal.
