Sellout The Major-Label Feeding Frenzy That Swept Punk, Emo, and Hardcore (1994-2007) [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B08ZVGGZJP | 2021 | 13 hours and 3 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 712 MB
A raucous history of punk, emo, and hardcore's growing pains during the commercial boom of the early '90s and mid-aughts, following eleven bands as they "sell out" and find mainstream fame, or break beneath the weight of it all. Punk rock found itself at a crossroads in the mid-'90s. After indie favorite Nirvana catapulted into the mainstream with its unexpected phenomenon, Nevermind, rebellion was suddenly en vogue. Looking to replicate the band's success, major record labels set their sights on the underground, and began courting punk's rising stars. But the DIY punk scene, which had long prided itself on its trademark authenticity and anti-establishment ethos, wasn't quite ready to let their homegrown acts go without a fight. The result was a schism: those who accepted the cash flow of the majors, and those who defiantly clung to their indie cred.

Return to the Reich A Holocaust Refugee's Secret Mission to Defeat the Nazis [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B08YS56KC5 | 2021 | 6 hours and 31 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 179 MB
The remarkable story of Fred Mayer, a German-born Jew who escaped Nazi Germany only to return as an American commando on a secret mission behind enemy lines. Growing up in Germany, Freddy Mayer witnessed the Nazis' rise to power. When he was 16, his family made the decision to flee to the United States - they were among the last German Jews to escape, in 1938. In America, Freddy tried enlisting the day after Pearl Harbor, only to be rejected as an "enemy alien" because he was German. He was soon recruited to the OSS, the country's first spy outfit before the CIA. Freddy, joined by Dutch-Jewish refugee Hans Wynberg and Nazi defector Franz Weber, parachuted into Austria as the leader of Operation Greenup, meant to deter Hitler's last stand. He posed as a Nazi officer and a French POW for months, dispatching reports to the OSS via Hans, holed up with a radio in a nearby attic. The reports contained a goldmine of information, provided key intelligence about the Battle of the Bulge, and allowed the Allies to bomb 20 Nazi trains. On the verge of the Allied victory, Freddy was captured by the Gestapo and tortured and waterboarded for days. Remarkably, he persuaded the Nazi commander for the region to surrender, completing one of the most successful OSS missions of the war.

Pharaohs of the Sun How Egypt's Despots and Dreamers Drove the Rise and Fall of Tutankhamun's Dynasty [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09NYQL15W | 2022 | 15 hours and 31 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 854 MB
For more than two centuries, Egypt was ruled by the most powerful, successful and richest dynasty of kings in its long end epic history. They included the female king Hatshepsut, the warrior kings Thutmose III and Amenhotep II, the religious radical Akhenaten and his queen Nefertiti, and most famously of all for the wealth of his tomb the short-lived boy king Tutankhamun. The power and riches of the pharaohs of the 18th dynasty came at enormous cost to Egypt's enemies and most of its people. This was an age of ruthless absolutism, exploitation, extravagance, brutality and oppression in a culture where not only did Egypt plunder its neighbours but Egyptian kings and their people robbed one another.
Three-thousand-five-hundred years ago, ancient Egypt began two centuries in which it became richer and more powerful than any other nation at the time, ruled by the kings of the 18th dynasty. They presided over a system built on war, oppression and ruthlessness, pouring Egypt's wealth into grandiose monuments, temples and extravagant tombs. Tutankhamun was one of the last of the line and one of the most obscure. Among his predecessors were some of the most notorious and enigmatic figures of all of Egypt's history. Pharaohs of the Sun is their story, showing how the glamour and gold was tainted by selfishness, ostentation and the systematic exploitation of Egypt's people and enemies.
