Men as Caregivers: Theory, Research, and Service Implications By Betty Kramer
2002 | 408 Pages | ISBN: 0826114725 | PDF | 46 MB
Today, more and more caregivers are male. Despite this fact, the vast majority of research on caregiving has centered on the experience of the female caregiver. This volume addresses the fundamental gap in our knowledge and theories about the growing male subpopulation of caregivers. The authors identify the serious limitations that result from viewing men caregivers through the lens of women's experiences and call for an unbiased and fresh perspective in future research.Special consideration is given to men who care for a family member with dementia; fathers of adult children with mental retardation; gay male caregivers for partners with AIDS; and sons and parent care.
Fanny Burney, "Memoirs of Doctor Burney: Arranged from His Own Manuscripts, from Family Papers, and from Personal Recollections"
English | 2010 | pages: 379 | ISBN: 1108013716 | PDF | 11,2 mb
Charles Burney (1726-1814), the music historian, is best remembered for his General History of Music and the accounts of his musical tours in Europe. He was a friend of Samuel Johnson and David Garrick, corresponded with Diderot and Haydn and was made Fellow of the Royal Society in 1773. Although he was a music teacher by profession, it was his writings on music which brought him widespread recognition. Following publication of the General History, he began his memoirs but did not complete them. It is likely that he intended his daughter, the novelist Fanny Burney, to publish the memoirs after his death using his manuscript and other papers. Instead she created her own embellished version, adding stylised accounts of events emphasising the literary and social, rather than the musical aspects. Volume 1 takes us to the mid-1770s with the publication of the accounts of the two musical tours.
Mathematical Models of Social Evolution: A Guide for the Perplexed by Robert Boyd, Richard McElreath
English | March 15, 2007 | ISBN: 0226558266, 0226558274 | True PDF | pages | 4.99 MB
Over the last several decades, mathematical models have become central to the study of social evolution, both in biology and the social sciences. But students in these disciplines often seriously lack the tools to understand them. A primer on behavioral modeling that includes both mathematics and evolutionary theory, Mathematical Models of Social Evolution aims to make the student and professional researcher in biology and the social sciences fully conversant in the language of the field.
Mathematical Modeling the Life Sciences: Numerical Recipes in Python and MATLAB®
English | 2023 | ISBN: 0367554933 | 246 Pages | PDF (True) | 16 MB
The purpose of this unique textbook is to bridge the gap between the need for numerical solutions to modeling techniques through computer simulations to develop skill in employing sensitivity analysis to biological and life sciences applications.
Mathematical Logic through Python
English | 2022 | ISBN: 110884507X | 285 Pages | PDF | 5 MB
Using a unique pedagogical approach, this text introduces mathematical logic by guiding students in implementing the underlying logical concepts and mathematical proofs via Python programming. This approach, tailored to the unique intuitions and strengths of the ever-growing population of programming-savvy students, brings mathematical logic into the comfort zone of these students and provides clarity that can only be achieved by a deep hands-on understanding and the satisfaction of having created working code. While the approach is unique, the text follows the same set of topics typically covered in a one-semester undergraduate course, including propositional logic and first-order predicate logic, culminating in a proof of Gödel's completeness theorem. A sneak peek to Gödel's incompleteness theorem is also provided. The textbook is accompanied by an extensive collection of programming tasks, code skeletons, and unit tests. Familiarity with proofs and basic proficiency in Python is assumed.

Marxism and Migration (Marx, Engels, and Marxisms)
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3030988384 | 472 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 5.35 MB
This book approaches migration from Marxist feminist, anti-imperialist, and anti-colonial perspectives. The present conditions of transnational migration, best described as a kind of social expulsion, include migrant caravans and detained unaccompanied children in the United States, thousands of migrant deaths at sea, the razing of self-organized refugee camps in Greece, and the massive dispersal of populations within and between countries. Placing patriarchal capitalism, imperialism, racialization, and fundamentalisms at the center of the analysis, Marxism and Migration helps build a more coherent and historically-informed discussion of the conditions of migration, resettlement, and resistance. Drawing upon a range of academic disciplines and diverse geopolitical regions, the book rethinks migrations from the vantage point of class struggle and seeks to ignite a more robust discussion of critical consciousness, racialization, militarization, and solidarity.
