Brian Weatherson, "Normative Externalism"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 0199696535 | PDF | pages: 335 | 3.7 mb
Normative Externalism argues that it is not important that people live up to their own principles. What matters, in both ethics and epistemology, is that they live up to the correct principles: that they do the right thing, and that they believe rationally. This stance, that what matters are the correct principles, not one's own principles, has implications across ethics and epistemology. In ethics, it undermines the ideas that moral uncertainty should be treated just like factual uncertainty, that moral ignorance frequently excuses moral wrongdoing, and that hypocrisy is a vice. In epistemology, it suggests we need new treatments of higher-order evidence, and of peer disagreement, and of circular reasoning, and the book suggests new approaches to each of these problems. Although the debates in ethics and in epistemology are often conducted separately, putting them in one place helps bring out their common themes. One common theme is that the view that one should live up to one's
Nuno S. Themudo, "Nonprofits in Crisis: Economic Development, Risk, and the Philanthropic Kuznets Curve"
English | 2013 | ISBN: 0253006856 | PDF | pages: 225 | 2.5 mb
Why do some countries have a vibrant nonprofit sector while others do not? Nonprofits in Crisis explores the theory of risk as a major mechanism through which economic development influences the nonprofit sector. Nuno S. Themudo elaborates this idea by focusing on Mexican nonprofit organizations, which operate and strive to survive in a risky environment. The study of these nonprofits generates broader lessons about philanthropy and the nonprofit sector that complement wider cross-national statistical analysis.
Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos, "Niklas Luhmann: Law, Justice, Society"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 0415685281, 0415451086 | PDF | pages: 248 | 1.5 mb
Niklas Luhmann: Law, Justice, Society presents the work of sociologist Niklas Luhmann in a radical new light. Luhmann's theory is here introduced both in terms of society at large and the legal system specifically, and for the first time, Luhmann's texts are systematically read together with theoretical insights from post-structuralism, deconstruction, phenomenology, radical ethics, feminism and post-ecologism. In his far-reaching book, Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos distances Luhmann's theory from its misrepresentations as conservative, rigorously positivist and disconnected from empirical reality, and firmly locates it in a sphere of post-ideological jurisprudence.

New Perspectives in Transnational History of Communism in East Central Europe By Krzysztof Brzechczyn (editor)
2019 | 386 Pages | ISBN: 3631771401 | PDF | 4 MB
The book offers a transnational perspective on history of communism in East-Central Europe. It analyzes the political, economic, and cultural dimensions of communist systems and focuses on different forms of resistance and ways of its remembering. The transnational look is manifested through an analysis of the usefulness of the models applied in research of the past, an investigation of some historical phenomena in the context of mutual relations between particular countries (e.g. Poland and East Germany), republics of Soviet Union (Lithuania, Moldova, and Russia) and between the East and the West relations (peace movement in Poland and Netherlands). Moreover, selected aspects of the past (consumerism in Bulgaria or economic management in Romania) are analyzed with the use of categories useful in transnational research.

Jeremy Marchant, "Network Better: How to meet, connect & grow your business"
English | ISBN: 1788600517 | 2018 | 246 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
A practical guide to business networking: how to conquer any fears you have about it, how to do it better, and how to stop tripping yourself up.Most books and presentations on networking stick to its behavioural aspects. This approach is necessary but not sufficient. Successful networking is about the successful initiation and nurturing of relationships with other business people, which requires emotional intelligence and an understanding of how to apply it in order to sustain networking relationships. When networking is not going well (or at all), many businesspeople's response is 'OK, I'm doing what you told me. How come it isn't working?' The answer is that people don't so much need behavioural tips (though these are always useful and are included in this book), they need to understand why they are getting in their own way, and how to move aside. On the whole, people don't successfully change their behaviour without understanding why they should. Network Better provides the necessary insight into what's going on as well as many practical, tried-and-tested suggestions and encouragements to enable you to do just that.
