In Other Words Dialogizing Postcoloniality, Race, and Ethnicity
In Other Words: Dialogizing Postcoloniality, Race, and Ethnicity By Ewa B. Luczak (editor), Justyna Wierzchowska (editor), Joanna Ziarkowska (editor)
2012 | 255 Pages | ISBN: 3631607431 | PDF | 2 MB
In Other Words: Dialogizing Postcoloniality, Race, and Ethnicity is a collection of essays by scholars and Americanists who labor under the conviction that the dynamically evolving field of postcolonial studies facilitates the development of new ways of conceptualizing race and ethnic studies. On guard against reductive statements and aware of the danger of blurring historical differences, the book encourages the reader to enter the dialogue between postcolonial studies and discourses on race and ethnicity. It demonstrates rhetorical and conceptual affinities between the fields and examines counter-narratives of resistance to imperial narratives and the politics of dominance. Concurrently the anthology challenges the reader to engage in the broader and trans-global reading of cultures marked by the experience of political exploitation and erasure.

In My Own Words
Toya Wright, "In My Own Words"
English | ISBN: 0997217820 | 2016 | 120 pages | EPUB | 490 KB
It's been said you never really know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. I've been through a lot this past year, from the social media petty parties to admitting my mom into a psyche ward. In My Own Words I offer my truths without filters, ad-libs or edits. I share my struggle with what seemed an unforgiving storm of tests of my faith. I had an up close and personal pass to the private suffering from the public humiliation of the man I loved. With the full dissolution of my marriage ranging from a bi-coastal separation, to an amicable divorce. It seemed all too unreal to hear the words "something terrible has happened to your brothers". Losing them both at once, at a time when we were just starting to become closer seemed so unfair; it all seemed so unfair! Then I would put my grief on hold to plan their funeral. How was I to remain strong and keep pushing? I had to, there was no other option; my daughter was watching. She's my motivation, she's what's keeps me going. So with God, prayer, and faith; I just kept moving.

Images, Iconoclasm, and the Carolingians
Images, Iconoclasm, and the Carolingians By Thomas F. X. Noble
2009 | 496 Pages | ISBN: 081224141X | PDF | 3 MB
In the year 726 C.E., the Byzantine emperor Leo III issued an edict declaring images to be idols, forbidden by Exodus, and ordering all such images in churches to be destroyed. Thus commenced the first wave of Byzantine iconoclasm, which ran its violent course until 787, when the underlying issues were temporarily resolved at the Second Council of Nicaea. In 815, a second great wave of iconoclasm was set off, only to end in 842 when the icons were restored to the churches of the East and the iconoclasts excommunicated. The iconoclast controversies have long been understood as marking major fissures between the Western and Eastern churches. Thomas F. X. Noble reveals that the lines of division were not so clear. It is traditionally maintained that the Carolingians in the 790s did not understand the basic issues involved in the Byzantine dispute. Noble contends that there was, in fact, a significant Carolingian controversy about visual art and, if its ties to Byzantine iconoclasm were tenuous, they were also complex and deeply rooted in central concerns of the Carolingian court. Furthermore, he asserts that the Carolingians made distinctive and original contributions to the whole debate over religious art.'Images, Iconoclasm, and the Carolingians' is the first book to provide a comprehensive study of the Western response to Byzantine iconoclasm. By comparing art-texts with laws, letters, poems, and other sources, Noble reveals the power and magnitude of the key discourses of the Carolingian world during its most dynamic and creative decades.

Identities and Modernizations
Identities and Modernizations By Tadeusz Buksinski (editor)
2013 | 316 Pages | ISBN: 3631644973 | PDF | 21 MB
This book presents insights and understandings on the issue of identities and modernizations, contributed mainly by theoreticians from China and scholars from Central and Eastern European countries. Both regions have followed a similar path towards modernization until the second half of the twentieth century. The past experience in both regions leads to two crucial, yet paradoxical conclusions: Firstly, no modernization of economy, technology or science is possible without a prior modernization of the collective identity, i.e. of culture, tradition, religion and spirituality in general. Secondly, effective and long-term modernization cannot be achieved with disregard for tradition, culture, religion and spirituality. The theory of dispersed modernity is promoted.
