Bekele Deboch Anshiso, "Jesus's Identification with the Marginalized and the Liminal: The Messianic Identity in Mark"
English | ISBN: 1839731672 | 2018 | 252 pages | EPUB | 800 KB
The first-century Judaic understanding of the identity and nature of the Messiah has been a much-debated topic among biblical scholars and preachers alike. So too has the messianic identity and nature of Jesus himself. Bekele Deboch informs these debates with fresh evidence outside the traditional scriptural references to miracles, and supernatural identifications by demons and God himself, as well as earthly identification by human beings. With thorough narrative criticism and analysis of co

Innovation in Brazil Advancing Development in the 21st Century
Elisabeth B. Reynolds, Ben Ross Schneider, Ezequiel Zylberberg, "Innovation in Brazil: Advancing Development in the 21st Century"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 0367146894 | EPUB | pages: 350 | 10.4 mb
Since the early 2000s, state-led and innovation-focused strategies have characterized the approach to development pursued in countries around the world, such as China, India, and South Korea. Brazil, the largest and most industrialized economy in Latin America, demonstrates both the opportunities and challenges of this approach. Over the course of nearly 20 years, the Brazilian government enacted various policies and programs designed to strengthen the country's capacity to innovate. It increased spending on science and technology, encouraged greater collaboration between industry and universities, and fostered the creation of new institutions whose primary aim was to facilitate greater private research and development (R&D) spending.

Indigenous Sovereignty and the Democratic Project
Steven Curry, "Indigenous Sovereignty and the Democratic Project "
English | ISBN: 1138258326 | 2020 | 192 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Liberal democracies are predicated on popular sovereignty - the ideal of government for and by the People. Throughout the developed world indigenous peoples continue to deny legitimacy to otherwise popular governments because their consent has never been sought. Using examples from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, this book tackles the problem of democratic legitimation from the perspective of indigenous peoples, arguing that having suffered conquest, these people cannot be said to consent until conditions for their consent have been realised. These conditions include constitutional change that recognizes indigenous law as the 'law of the land' - a radical proposal going far beyond the current limits of self-determination.

In Leviathan's Belly Essays for a Counter-Revolutionary Time
Darko Suvin, "In Leviathan's Belly: Essays for a Counter-Revolutionary Time"
English | 2012 | ISBN: 1434445194 | PDF | pages: 364 | 1.7 mb
In eleven incisive, biting essays, Marxist philosopher Darko Suvin suggests that "capitalism (and all of us in Leviathan's belly) stands today in the presence of Yeats's rough beast advancing toward Bethlehem, that finance capitalism is not simply a stage but a recurrent 'Autumn' signal of transition from one world regime of accumulation and domination to another; it signals the destruction of the old regime and creation of a 'new' one." And to bolster his argument, Suvin points to the economic and social chaos creeping and growing through western society, bank failures, riots, unrest, loss of private capital, loss of middle-class jobs, increase in drug and alcohol abuse, proliferation of guns and other weapons in society, failure of our school systems, inability of police to provide security, and political revolution in less-developed states. The author stresses the need to provide "universal guaranteed income sufficient to modestly live on for all adults working 35 hours a week, and a stress on [providing decent] education and health." And to fund these simple measures: "Just pay trillions to people instead of banks and the military." Suvin's intelligent analysis and commentary will open many eyes that have been prejudiced against socialist thought by the rise of right-wing politicians, and demonstrate quite clearly to the modern reader that there IS another perspective worth considering.

Images of the Canton Factories 1760-1822 Reading History in Art
Paul A. Van Dyke, Maria Kar-wing Mok, "Images of the Canton Factories 1760-1822: Reading History in Art"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 9888208551 | PDF | pages: 189 | 5.7 mb
Hundreds of Chinese export paintings of Canton trading houses and shopping streets are in museums and private collections throughout the world, and scholars of art and history have often questioned the reliability of these historical paintings. In this illustrated volume, Paul Van Dyke and Maria Mok examine these Chinese export paintings by matching the changes in the images with new historical data collected from various archives. Many factory paintings are reliable historical records in their own right and can be dated to a single year. Dating images with such precision was not possible in the past owing to insufficient information on the scenes. The new findings in this volume provide unprecedented opportunities to re-date many art works and prove that images of the Canton factories painted on canvas by Chinese artists are far more trustworthy than what scholars have believed in the past.
