Achieving Our World: Toward a Global and Plural Democracy By Fred Reinhard Dallmayr
2001 | 223 Pages | ISBN: 0742511847 | PDF | 17 MB
Referring to Richard Rorty's "Achieving Our Country" in his title, yet rejecting Rorty's focus as both ethnocentric and too limited, Dallmayr presents a philosophical and political examination of the alternatives to globalization. Separating the philosophical and political sections of the book, yet insisting that the two are inextricably linked, he first examines the possibilities for cosmopolitan democracy to arise from grassroots movements intimately connected to local cultural traditions, rather than imposed from above by the West. Next, he looks at concepts of self vs. other and cross-cultural encounters as foundational ideas for the process of achieving global democracy.
Tamilla Mammadova, "Academic Writing and Information Literacy Instruction in Digital Environments: A Complementary Approach"
English | ISBN: 3031191595 | 2022 | 246 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book offers an interdisciplinary approach to the teaching of academic writing and information literacy in a new digital dimension, drawing on recent trends towards project-based writing, digital writing and multimodal writing in Education, and synthesising theory with practice to provide a handy toolkit for teachers and researchers. The author combines a practical orientation to teaching academic writing and information literacy with a grounding in current theories of writing instruction in the digitalized era, and argue that as digital environments become more universal in modern society - particularly in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic - the lines between traditional academic writing and multi-modal digital writing must necessary become blurred. This book will be of use to teachers and instructors of academic writing and information literacy, particularly within the context of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), as well as students and researchers in Applied Linguistics, Pedagogy and Digital Writing.

Andrea Rapini, "A Social History of Administrative Science in Italy: Planning a State of Happiness from Liberalism to Fascism "
English | ISBN: 3031170466 | 2022 | 189 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This book traces the origins, life and death of Administrative Science in Italy as an academic discipline between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It does so by combining the study of ideas, institutional history, intellectual history and social history. The Faculty of Law first introduced Administrative Science in 1875, with the aim of providing the elite with the necessary tools to distribute wealth more equally, to take care of the population and, thus, to make the young Italian State more legitimate in the eyes of the emerging masses. Law and social sciences were merged with the aim of increasing reforms, including that of creating a State of Happiness for all citizens. Throughout its 70-year existence, Administrative Science was deprived of its contents and scientific independence, and academically overshadowed by Administrative and Public law. Finally, although the liberal elites discarded the reformer project of Administrative Science even before Fascism turned everything upside down, most of the original traits of this knowledge were absorbed into Fascist corporate and totalitarian structures.

A Primer on Fluid Mechanics with Applications by Sudhir Ranjan Jain , Bhooshan S. Paradkar , Shashikumar M. Chitre
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 284 Pages | ISBN : 3031204867 | 17.8 MB
This textbook is a pedagogic introduction to a number of phenomena employing fluid mechanics. Beginning with basic concepts and conservation laws for neutral and charged fluids, the authors apply and develop them to understand aerodynamics, locomotion of micro-organisms, waves in air and water, shock waves, hydrodynamic and hydromagnetic instabilities, stars and black holes, blood flow in humans, and superfluids. The approach is to consider various striking topics on fluid mechanics, without losing necessary mathematical rigor. The book balances the qualitative explanations with formal treatment, in a compact manner. A special focus is given to the important and difficult subject of turbulence and the book ends with a discussion on turbulence in quantum fluids. The textbook is dotted by a number of illustrative examples, mostly from real life, and exercises.

A Companion to the Theology of John Webster By Michael Allen (editor), R David Nelson (editor)
2021 | 336 Pages | ISBN: 0802876749 | PDF | 3 MB
An overview and analysis of John Webster's seminal contributions to Christian theology At the time of his death, John Webster was widely hailed as one of the leading Christian theologians in the world. Over the course of three decades, he produced groundbreaking studies on the theologies of Eberhard Jüngel and Karl Barth and, especially since the turn of the millennium, numerous books and essays on various themes in Christian dogmatics. He then intended to write an encyclopedic systematic theology--a project he was unable to complete. No substitute is possible for that lost opus, but the contributors offer this volume as an homage to Webster and an aid to those who want to learn from him. A Companion to the Theology of John Webster begins with an introductory section on Webster's theological development, then continues into an extensive overview of Webster's contributions to contemporary discussions of particular doctrines. An epilogue suggests how Webster's theology might have unfolded had he lived longer and imagines the continuing influence of his work on the enterprise of Christian dogmatics. Readers hoping to understand the legacy of this great theologian, and also those eager for fresh insights into the present state and future trajectories of contemporary Protestantism, will find much to offer here.
A Brief History of Economic Thought: From the Mercantilists to the Post-Keynesians by Hassan Bougrine and Louis-Philippe Rochon
English | July 7, 2022 | ISBN: 1786433834 | 304 pages | PDF | 4 MB
It is now widely acknowledged that history is useful, even essential, because it helps us predict the future. The history of ideas in economics, as in other fields of inquiry, plays an important role in enlightening current researchers as they endeavour to understand contemporary events and anticipate the future of human societies. This book brings together a fine collection of chapters that span contributions from forgotten classics to the most recent new thinking about critical issues such as growth, wealth, its creation and its distribution among members of society. It is A Brief History of Economic Thought, but it will certainly go a long way in helping undergraduate students and other researchers who are curious about the evolution of economic ideas over the last five centuries.
A Beauty-ful Boson: Search for the Higgs Boson Produced in Association with a Vector Boson and Decaying into a Pair of b-quarks Using Large-R Jets with the ATLAS Detector by Giulia Di Gregorio
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 229 Pages | ISBN : 3031200128 | 59.3 MB
The analysis described in this thesis is the search for the Higgs boson, decaying into bb pair, in the associated production with a vector boson, in the extreme Higgs boson transverse momentum region where the Higgs boson is reconstructed using the large-R jet technique. The use of the large-R jets allows to add a part of the phase space unexplored so far, which is particularly sensitive to possible new physics.
