Ken Hyland, "Genre and Second Language Writing"
English | 2004 | pages: 260 | ISBN: 0472030140 | PDF | 0,9 mb
Second language students not only need strategies for drafting and revising to write effectively, but also a clear understanding of genre so that they can appropriately structure their writing for various contexts. Over that last decade, increasing attention has been paid to the notion of genre and its central place in language teaching and learning. Genre and Second Language Writing enters into this important debate, providing an accessible introduction to current theory and research in the area of written genres-and applying these understandings to the practical concerns of today's EFL/ESL classroom. Each chapter includes discussion and review questions and small-scale practical research activities. Like the other texts in the popular Michigan Series on Teaching Multilingual Writers, this book will interest ESL teachers in training, teacher educators, current ESL instructors, and researchers and scholars in the area of ESL writing.
Gender-Competent Legal Education by Dragica Vujadinović, Mareike Fröhlich, Thomas Giegerich
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 713 Pages | ISBN : 3031143590 | 13.3 MB
Male-dominated law and legal knowledge essentially characterized the whole of pre-modern history in that the patriarchy represented the axis of social relations in both the private and public spheres. Indeed, modern and even contemporary law still have embedded elements of patriarchal heritage, even in the secular modern legal systems of Western developed countries, either within the content of legislation or in terms of its implementation and interpretation. This is true to a greater or lesser extent across legal systems, although the secular modern legal systems of the Western developed countries have made great advances in terms of gender equality.
Wendy Loretto, Clary Krekula, Sarah Vickerstaff, "Gender, Ageing and Extended Working Life: Cross-National Perspectives"
English | 2019 | pages: 265 | ISBN: 1447325125, 1447325117 | PDF | 4,8 mb
Nations that are raising retirement ages appear to work on the assumption that there is appropriate employment available for people who are expected to retire later. 'Gender, ageing and extended working life' challenges both this narrative, and the gender-neutral way the expectation for extending working lives is presented in most policy-making circles. The international contributors to this book - part of the Ageing in a Global Context series - apply life-course approaches to understanding evolving definitions of work and retirement. They consider the range of transitions from paid work to retirement that are potentially different for women and men in different family circumstances and occupational locations, and offer solutions governments should consider to enable them to evaluate existing policies. Based on evidence from Australia, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, this is essential reading for researchers and students, and for policymakers who formulate and implement employment and pensions policy at national and international levels.

Fundamentals of the Radiolocation and Radionavigation
English | 2023 | ISBN: 303110630X | 764 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 61 MB
The book presents principles of operation of radar and radionavigation systems. The group of radar systems includes: primary and secondary radiolocations, bistatic and multistatic systems. They are illustrated with relevant examples of calculation and applications. The issues of increasing the range of the radar systems are presented together with the matched filtering of the used signals. Other discussed issues are methods for eliminating interfering signals and researching methods of 3D space. Various methods of the monopulse radiolocation are presented in Chapter 12. In Chapters 13-18 terrestrial and satellite radionavigation systems are under discussion. The terrestrial systems are: Loran C, Decca Navigator and Omega. The TRANSIT is an example of a hyperbolic satellite system. The stadiometric systems GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BeiDou, IRNSS and QZSS are discussed together with differential systems augmentating of them. The ILS, MLS and TLS supporting the landing of aircrafts are discussed in Chapter 17. The prospects for replacing of them with satellite systems augmentated by appropriate reference ground-based stations (GBAS) are also analyzed. Various beacons and ranging devices used in aviation are described in the Chapter 18. This book is intended primarily for students and engineers interested in radar, radionavigation and aerospace engineering.

Adrian S. Hollis, "Fragments of Roman Poetry c.60 BC-AD 20"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0199567832, 0198146981 | PDF | pages: 459 | 1.8 mb
This book aims to fill in the literary history of the greatest period of Latin poetry, about 60 BC to AD 20. Catullus (by a slender thread) has survived, but later contemporaries valued his friend Calvus just as highly; comparison of the two reveals an extraordinarily close relationship. Horace mentions Varius Rufus in the same breath as Virgil. Adrian Hollis prints fragments of up to thirty poets, with an individual introduction and a translation for each. Almost every genre of ancient poetry is represented, from heroic epic to scurrilous lampoon. Hollis's commentary, fuller and richer than any yet published, contains many new ideas. In some cases (such as Varius Rufus) the fragments illumine the history of this period, which saw the collapse of the Roman Republic and establishment of the Augustan Empire. Taken together, these fragmentary texts enable us better to appreciate surviving great poets such as Catullus and Virgil.
