English | ISBN: 036935513X | 2019 | 352 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
There have been countless stories written by and about Holocaust survivors, and each one has its own perspective, each being a witness statement, an eye-witness account - and each deserves to be told. Arkwright feels an urgency to tell his story, as otherwise his unique life experiences and the life stories of some of the people he met and who have perished in the Holocaust will die with him.
Beyond 2%-NATO Partners, Institutions & Burden Management: Concepts, Risks & Models
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031221575 | 322 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 11 MB
This book advances North Atlantic Treaty Organization (henceforth, NATO) burden analysis through a decomposition of the political, financial, social, and defense burdens members take on for the institution. The overemphasis of committing a minimum of 2% of member state Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to defense spending, as a proxy indicator of alliance commitment does not properly reflect how commitments reduce risks should Article V be invoked through attack (i.e., 2% is a political & symbolic target adopted by Defense Ministers in 2006 at Riga). Considering defense burdens multi-dimensionally explains why some members overcontribute, as well as, why burden sharing negotiations cause friction among 30 diverse members with differing threats and risks. In creating a comprehensive institutional burden management model and focusing on risks to members, the book explores the weaknesses of major theories on the study and division of collective burdens and institutional assets. It argues that member risks and threats are essential to understanding how burdens are distributed across a set of overlapping institutions within NATO's structure providing its central goods. The importance of the USA, as a defense underwriter for some, affects negotiations despite its absence from research empirically; new data permit testing the argument (Kavanaugh 2014). This book contributes conceptual innovation and theoretical analysis to advance student, researcher, and policymaker understanding of burden management, strategic bargaining, and defense cooperation. The contribution is a generalizable risk management model of IO burden sharing using NATO as the case for scientific study due to its prominence.
Luise Eichenbaum, "Between Women: Love, Envy, and Competition in Women's Friendships"
English | ISBN: 150532825X | 2014 | 214 pages | EPUB | 639 KB
As women today pursue new professional and personal goals, they often find that the support they need from their women friends has been undermined by feelings of envy, competition, and anger. This book is an attempt to provide a feminist psychoanalytic understanding of the emotional and psychological processes that are set in train when women perceive differences in each other. It is about the difficulties women face in coming to terms with those differences. We hope it will enable women to handle those differences more productively and less destructively than is often the case at present.
Ashutosh Salil, "Being the Change : In the Footsteps of the Mahatma"
English | ISBN: 9356291985 | 2022 | 172 pages | EPUB | 579 KB
This book tells the stories of social justice warriors who are quietly powering the country's progress by being agents of real change. Words Mahatma Gandhi lived by-such as 'India lives in villages and to serve the poor we will have to serve in the villages' or that 'truth may get troubled but it never gets defeated'-are their moral compass. They have shown by personal example how adopting Bapu's ideology as a way of life can be personally enriching and socially beneficial. The people in this book mostly work away from the spotlight. Through entirely Gandhian ways, they have proved that his methods, such as satyagraha, still help effect real change and progress for the people most in need. Many have won awards and recognition, but largely their stirring stories have remained untold-a gap that Being the Change seeks to fill.

Basilicata and Southern Italy Between Film and Ecology
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031135725 | 424 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 11 MB
This volume offers an open, transdisciplinary living space (also green) through which to explore the different connections between Basilicata and Southern Italy, cinema, and ecology, and thus to reflect on the different forms through which the historical, cultural, and social contexts of Southern Italian regions have been variously identified and represented. In order to explore these connections, the volume embraces a wide range of perspectives that may all be grouped under the key term film ecocriticism, offering the reader a thorough analysis not only of the different ways of representing reality but also of the processes of signification through which reality itself can be understood, rethought, and transformed. This is the general framework within which the authors consider film as a proper, effective medium for ecocritical and ecophilosophical reflections concerning not only Basilicata (to which the greater part of the volume is dedicated) but also Southern Italy and, therefore, its history and its territories, communities, and identities. Furthermore, in an even more general sense, Basilicata and Southern Italy reconnects with the very idea of the South, and of all Souths, to which this volume is dedicated.
