2014 | 393 Pages | ISBN: 1557286493 | EPUB | 2 MB
Beyond C. L. R. James brings together essays analyzing the intercon¬nections among race, ethnicity, and sport. Published in memory of C. L. R. James, the revolutionary sociologist and writer from Trinidad who penned the famous autobiographical account of cricket titled Beyond a Boundary, this collection of essays, many of which originated at the 2010 conference on race and ethnicity in sport at the University of West Indies, Cave Hill in Barbados, cover everything from Aborigines in sport and cricket and minstrel shows in Australia to Zulu stick fighting and football and racism in northern Ireland. The essays, divided into four sections that include introductory comments by each editor, are written by some of the more well-known sport historians in the world and characterized by a focus on the role of culture and sport in society in the context of both political economies and the state as well as colonial and postcolonial struggles. Included also are discussions on how sport at once brings people together, shapes the identities of its participants, and reflects the continuing search for social justice.

The Mastery of Destiny by James Allen
The Mastery of Destiny by James Allen
English | MP3@192 kbps | 1h 52m | 154.9 MB
There is, and always has been, a widespread belief in Fate, or Destiny, that is, in an eternal and inscrutable Power which apportions definite ends to both individuals and nations. This belief has arisen from long observation of the facts of life. Men are conscious that there are certain occurrences which they cannot control, and are powerless to avert. Birth and death, for instance, are inevitable, and many of the incidents of life appear equally inevitable. Men strain every nerve for the attainment of certain ends, and gradually they become conscious of a Power which seems to be not of themselves, which frustrates their puny efforts, and laughs, as it were, at their fruitless striving and struggle. As men advance in life, they learn to submit, more or less, to this overruling Power which they do not understand, perceiving only its effects in themselves and the world around them, and they call it by various names, such as God, Providence, Fate, Destiny, etc.

Kazanby James Oliver Curwood
Kazan by James Oliver Curwood
English | MP3@192 kbps | 7h 11m | 592.2 MB
Kazan(sometimes published with the subtitleThe Wolf Dog) is a once very popular novel byAmerican writerJames Oliver Curwood. Kazan is probably the most widely read of his novels during his lifetime, an engrossing tale of a magnificent animal that is part husky and part wolf. There is a struggle between the two breeds in Kazan's makeup; he is torn between love for a particular man and woman and the desire to run free with the wolves, especially the one that he has chosen for his mate. In both of these contrasting parts of his life, he meets tremendous challenges that require all his instinct, strength, and spirit to overcome. After a trip to the Yukon area of Canada and Alaska, Curwood wrote a series of wilderness adventure novels that were best-sellers in the 1910's and 1920's and remained popular through mid-century.Jack London had begun the vogue for northland dog stories with his Call of the Wild and White Fang, and there were many imitators, but none had a greater impact than Curwood. The income from the sales of this book permitted him to spend several months of each year in the remote northwestern area that he loved, while he poured out more than 30 novels.Kazan - The Wolf Dog was first published in 1914. AUDIO: Read by Leonard Wilson, running time: 7 hours, 11 min. Unabridged, full version. E-Book, ePUB, Length: 66 300 words, average reading time 5 hours, 30 min.James Oliver Curwood (1878-1927) was an American action-adventure writer. His books ranked among Publishers Weekly top-ten best sellers in the United States in the early 1920s. At least eighteen motion pictures have been based on or directly inspired by his novels and short stories. At the time of his death, he was the highest paid (per word) author in the world.
