Mind the Tech Gap Addressing the Conflicts between IT and Security Teams
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1032206179, 978-1032206172 | 215 pages | True PDF | 5.01 MB
IT and cybersecurity teams have had a long-standing battle between functionality and security. But why? To understand where the problem lies, this book will explore the different job functions, goals, relationships, and other factors that may impact how IT and cybersecurity teams interact. With different levels of budget, competing goals, and a history of lack of communication, there is a lot of work to do to bring these teams together. Empathy and emotional intelligence are common phenomena discussed in leadership books, so why not at the practitioner level? Technical teams are constantly juggling projects, engineering tasks, risk management activities, security configurations, remediating audit findings, and the list goes on. Understanding how psychology and human factors engineering practices can improve both IT and cybersecurity teams can positively impact those relationships, as well as strengthen both functionality and security. There is no reason to have these teams at odds or competing for their own team's mission; align the missions, and align the teams. The goal is to identify the problems in your own team or organization and apply the principles within to improve how teams communicate, collaborate, and compromise. Each organization will have its own unique challenges but following the question guide will help to identify other technical gaps horizontally or vertically.

Mechanizing Hypothesis Formation Principles and Case Studies
English | 2022 | ISBN: 0367549808, 978-0367549800 | 362 pages | True PDF | 7.44 MB
Mechanizing hypothesis formation is an approach to exploratory data analysis. Its development started in the 1960s inspired by the question " can computers formulate and verify scientific hypotheses? ". The development resulted in a general theory of logic of discovery. It comprises theoretical calculi dealing with theoretical statements as well as observational calculi dealing with observational statements concerning finite results of observation. Both calculi are related through statistical hypotheses tests. A GUHA method is a tool of the logic of discovery. It uses a one-to-one relation between theoretical and observational statements to get all interesting theoretical statements. A GUHA procedure generates all interesting observational statements and verifies them in a given observational data. Output of the procedure consists of all observational statements true in the given data. Several GUHA procedures dealing with association rules, couples of association rules, action rules, histograms, couples of histograms, and patterns based on general contingency tables are involved in the LISp-Miner system developed at the Prague University of Economics and Business. Various results about observational calculi were achieved and applied together with the LISp-Miner system.
The book covers a brief overview of logic of discovery. Many examples of applications of the GUHA procedures to solve real problems relevant to data mining and business intelligence are presented. An overview of recent research results relevant to dealing with domain knowledge in data mining and its automation is provided. Firsthand experiences with implementation of the GUHA method in the Python language are presented.

Joining Metals (Crowood Metalworking Guides)
English | 2022 | ISBN: 0719840554 | 160 pages | True EPUB | 22.4 MB
Joining metals is a fundamental process used in all aspects of modern life. It is vital wherever metals are used, which is just about everywhere. Small or large, simple or complex – no mode of transport or method of construction would be possible without the sound understanding of its theory and practice. Written for the home metalworker or model engineer, this book discusses the various methods of joining metals, including strength, testing and applications, and includes useful lessons from historical failures including the sinking of the Titanic, the Flixborough explosion, the capsize of the Alexander L. Keilland offshore platform, the Hyatt Hotel elevated walkway collapse and the Markham Colliery lift bolt failure. With over 100 diagrams and over 200 photographs, this book examines: Mechanical joining: bolting, riveting, clamping - Metallurgical joining: welding, brazing, soldering - Chemical joining: bonding difficult metals - Strength of joints: choice and analysis - Failure of metals and joints: stress, fatigue, corrosion - Design: use of theory and codes to avoid failure, and finally - Testing of metals and joints: destructive and non-destructive (NDT).
