Alen Rio is a SciFi/Fantasy author. Alen trained for more than fifteen years in martial arts. This training, combined with his love of fantastic adventure, greatly influenced his writing. He enjoys writing SciFi, especially dystopian stories, near future, and fantasy.His novel RISING won the 2015 Filipino ReaderCon award for Best Fiction in English.He wrote this course to share critical lessons he learned from writing as a hobby to self-publishing novels and finally to being signed by a publisher. This course provides context to his journey that many self-published authors will be familiar with. He shares key moments in his timeline that inspired him to keep going. Throughout the course he will discuss critical skills and knowledge he obtain along the way. Some of these skills are directly related to the craft of writing. Others are in line with how to connect and get noticed by publishers. While he emphasis the importance of writing, equally important are the items that all publishers want to see beyond the story. The author will share his techniques on world building, brainstorming, and summarizing stories. He will share his experiences with publishers and the critical tasks they want to see authors doing, before the story is even accepted. There are many pitfalls along the way on the writing journey.
