Slave Traders by Invitation West Africa's Slave Coast in the Precolonial Era
Slave Traders by Invitation: West Africa's Slave Coast in the Precolonial Era by Finn Fuglestad
English | August 1, 2018 | ISBN: 0190876107, 1849049068 | EPUB | 500 pages | 1.5 MB
The Slave Coast, situated in what is now the West African state of Benin, was the epicentre of the Atlantic Slave Trade. But it was also an inhospitable, surf-ridden coastline, subject to crashing breakers and devoid of permanent human settlement. Nor was it easily accessible from the interior due to a lagoon which ran parallel to the coast. The local inhabitants were not only sheltered against incursions from the sea, but were also locked off from it. Yet, paradoxically, it was this coastline that witnessed a thriving long-term commercial relation-ship between Europeans and Africans, based on the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Shaping a Science of Social Work Professional Knowledge and Identity
Shaping a Science of Social Work: Professional Knowledge and Identity by John S. Brekke, Jeane W. Anastas
English | ISBN: 019088066X | 280 pages | EPUB | 2019 | 1.38 Mb
Shaping a Science of Social Workprovides a basic framework for a social work science within the context of academic disciplinarity and professional identity. Drawn from discussions at the annual IslandWood retreats for social work scholars, this book centers on a realist/critical-realist perspective by outlining the basic constructs, domains, and characteristics of a science that will inform the way social work is studied and practiced for years to come. Chapters written by leaders of the field offer detailed and rigorous analyses of essential issues such as values and value-based assumptions, philosophy of mind, importance of theory, challenges of rigor and relevance in social work science, and implications for the future of the profession. The book serves as an invaluable resource for academics and organizational leaders in social work practice and education.

Religion in Roman Britain
Religion in Roman Britain By Mr Martin Henig, Martin Henig
1995 | 294 Pages | ISBN: 0713460474 | PDF | 8 MB
Apart from Christianity and the Oriental Cults, religion in Roman Britain is often discussed as though it remained basically Celtic in belief and practice, under a thin veneer of Roman influence. Using a wide range of archaeological evidence, Dr Henig shows that the Roman element in religion was of much greater significance and that the natural Roman veneration for the gods found meaningful expression even in the formal rituals practised in the public temples of Britain.

Matthew Carmona, Claudio de Magalhães, Leo Hammond, "Public Space: The Management Dimension"
English | 2008 | ISBN: 0415396492 | 240 pages | PDF | 7,5 MB
In both the UK and the US there is a sense of dissatisfaction and pessimism about the state of urban environments, particularly with the quality of everyday public spaces. Explanations for this have emphasized the poor quality of design that characterizes many new public spaces; spaces that are dominated by parking, roads infrastructure, introspective buildings, a lack of enclosure and a poor sense of place, and which in different ways for different groups are too often exclusionary.
